What are the specifications for a domain name?

While the total length of a domain name may be up to sixty-four (64) characters including the ending (e.g. .com), the only characters allowed are letters, digits (numbers), and the dash (-). A domain name cannot, however, begin or end with a dash.

The "www" which almost always comes before the domain name in a web-site address is not, in fact, part of the domain name. It has simply become a standard practice to write "www." in front of a domain name.

Domain names can be registered with any accredited domain registrar.  However, you can also register a domain through Elehost.  Elehost uses the ICANN accredited registrar OpenSRS.
